My name is Gurj Dhaliwal I'm a chef, father, husband and this past March I turned 40!
Aprons for Gloves is an event that I've always wanted to participate in since it's inception but for many reasons or excuses I just haven't committed.
But 3:09pm on Sunday May 26th at 238 Keefer Street upstairs at Eastside Boxing Club everything changed. I 100% did commit!
Even though that tryout cost me a few body shots like I've never felt before it was exactly what was needed!
My Goal is to raise a minimum of $2000 for the Eastside Boxing Club.
Eastside Boxing Club’s mission in the community is to improve lives and build community through boxing. By having a space that supports members and community involvement, participants in collaborative fundraising campaigns have the unique opportunity to see first-hand how their participation impacts their community. At Eastside this includes four social initiatives: 1) ESB after-school boxing program for at-risk youth; 2) young adults class for youth working to improve their mental health; 3) free self-defense series for female-identified and all members of LGBTTQQ2S, and 4) the Moms and Tots Boxing Program.;
This Journey for me is very personal as I have many goals:
1) Be a part of something that is bigger than myself, be able to give back to a community and cause that benefits at risk youth.
2) Show my 2 young sons to always challenge yourselves no matter your age
3) To get more fit during the process and ensure my face stays intact so my wife will continue to take selfies with me.
4) Fundraising Goal. And by goal, I mean, Fundraising Deadline.
● $500 by July 2nd
● $1500 by August 1st
● $2000 by August 15th

Founded in 2012, Aprons for Gloves Boxing Association is a non-profit organization focused on providing community outreach through the sport of boxing. Based in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside, the organization was developed by a small group of professionals and entrepreneurs who seized an opportunity to re-establish a historic boxing program for at-risk women and youth. The program offers free mentorship and training to individuals who may otherwise not have the resources or support to participate in such activities. The sport of boxing teaches discipline, respect, hard work and self-control. Training results in positive self-esteem, good health and camaraderie for its practitioners.
Restaurant Rumble 2019
Every year bartenders, chefs, dishwaters, servers, baristas and all sorts of individuals from the Gastown community get together to train at the Eastside Boxing Club to fight in Restaurant Rumble.
In order to attend training, each fighter is required to raise $2000 for charity before they can compete at the Rumble.
