Gallery 44's 40th Anniversary Publication: A maze of collapsing lines

To mark our 40th Anniversary, Gallery 44 is launching A maze of collapsing lines, an online web-publication in five chapters. The publication will be released over the course of the year, launching in mid-April, with subsequent chapter releases in June, September, November, and January 2020.

The project responds to shifting notions of geographical and virtual space, and aims to create lateral relationships outside the parameters of the physical gallery space. Each chapter will feature contemporary lens-based work from a different region of Canada, with adjacent programming at both Gallery 44 and the participant’s local community. Public programming will include: lectures, mural painting, collage nights, reading groups and panel discussions. Gallery 44 is excited to be collaborating with Northern B.C. artist Tricia Livingston, Toronto-based collective Black Artists Union, a selection of contemporary Inuit photographers, Ociciwan Contemporary Art Collective based in Edmonton, and the Saskatoon-based AKA Artist-Run Centre. A maze of collapsing lines is supported by both Canada Council for the Arts’ Arts Across Canada Public Outreach Stream Grant, and OCAD University’s Career Launchers program.

Gallery 44 is looking to our community of supporters to complete the fundraising for this online and public programming initiative, and has started a campaign through Fundrazr. The Bulmash-Siegel Fund, a long-time member and supporter of Gallery 44, will match every dollar raised, with a contribution of up to $3500.

Please consider donating to A maze of collapsing lines! Gallery 44 is a not-for-profit artist-run centre and charitable organization. Donations of all sizes are welcome – every little bit helps! All donors gifting $25 or more will receive a copy of Gallery 44’s 35th Anniversary publication, Reflections Refractions. Those who are able to donate $40 or more for Gallery 44’s 40th Anniversary will also be credited on the online publication’s Supporter page.
