TheatreWorks Florida’s highly successful community outreach program, TheatreCares, is thrilled and proud to announce the launch of their all new project, Vet Voices. This highly anticipated program is available to military veterans of war, their families and caregivers throughout Polk County and all of Central Florida.

Vet Voices will provide disabled military war veterans an opportunity for self-awareness and self-discovery in a creative “safe space” environment. This ongoing "arts and health” program will nurture life-long healing and learning through the art of live theatre. The program will consist of workshops and events that allow veterans affected by war, to explore the theatre arts and ultimately find healing through creativity. The end result will combine theatre professionals with veterans on stage in a fully produced, original musical play, developed by the veterans themselves, that incorporates creative writing, music, songs and visual art generated from the workshops.

Included in the Vet Voices program is an “Arts Access Pass”. Each program participant will receive four FREE tickets to every TheatreWorks Florida event throughout the year. TheatreWorks Florida believes the power of theatre is transformative and we firmly commit to making the arts accessible to everyone, regardless of their ability to pay. We strive to eliminate the financial barrier that prevents families & individuals from experiencing our theatre’s vibrant & diverse stage productions. Inclusion in the arts builds communities, inspires creativity, and increases understanding of different stories and viewpoints. Our military veterans, their families and caregivers deserve the opportunity to be transformed just like anybody else.

The entire Vet Voices program is  free of charge to all military veterans of war (Active, Retired, Reserve and National Guard), their families and their caregivers in the Central FL region. Showcase presentations of the vets' creative outcome will be presented to the Central FL public in a continued effort to increase awareness of the issues our vets live with on a daily basis.

Vet Voices creative and support partners include high profile national agencies such as National Endowment for The Arts, National Initiative for Arts & Health in the Military, Americans for The Arts and NEA Creative Forces. The program has also begun outreach partnerships with James A. Hailey Veteran’s Hospital (Tampa, FL) and the Lake Nona VA Hospital (Orlando, FL).

Recruitment to the Vet Voices program is already underway. For more information please visit TheatreWorks Florida’s website at  TheatreWorksFL.org or email at  vetvoices@theatreworksfl.org.

We are so proud to offer this inspiring program to our community. We humbly ask you to support TheatreWorks Florida & TheatreCares in helping our military veterans become enriched, empowered and transformed through the art of live theatre. Your donation today will make sure no one is left behind tomorrow. All donations are directly applied to the Vet Voices program. A sincere thank you for supporting the “art of changing lives” in Central FL.
