Tina Smart hasn't added a story.
This is a story of love and respect and hope. My name is Tina. I've recently been exposed to the fact that my uncle has been selling off assets. My aunt has gone into a more supervised care home--after my uncle (with some famly help) took care of her for the last 5 years.
--theirs was a labor of love. They met later in their adult lives, and fell in love very quickly, she had children from a previous marriage, he had never married. Their life was lovely. My uncle treated my aunt so well. As she became less able to get around, he built a 3-season room on the side of the house, filled it with pictures of their (hers, really) children and grandchildren, ceramics, etc. They lived comfortably, usually with a few dollars to spare. And, basically, they lived to support the love of one another's famlies. They were frugal, yet generous with the funds they had. They also shared their time with others by bowling with my parents, fishing with my daughters, skating with my siblings, teaching a number of young men to do woodworking, etc.
Eventually, they needed space to do their endeavors, and acts of charity. My uncle built the pole building in a more commercial area on the outskirts of town. He added some of the comforts of home, as they built a ceramic shop inside the structure. He made sure it was properly ventilated, a kiln became available for them to purchase 2nd hand. She allowed several friends to use the area, and then the grandkids and nieces started coming! We all learned many techniques, not just how to paint! When another ceramic facility closed they added the molds to their repetoire (as they were being tossed out). That took up loads of room! They began to pour molds, and well, the rest is history. Everyone in the family received gifts from the heart--items that were labors of love--not purchased in the quick-making industries of today.
Anyway, OUR GOAL: We would like to find a way for my uncle to use the shop. This cannot happen if he sells the shop (which needs to be done, as my aunt's care is needed--right). So, our idea was that if we could come up with the money ourselves, we could purchase the shop, but let my uncle keep his things inside. Little by little he is donating parts of the existing ceramics workshop, but it is a time-consuming and heart-wrenching thing for him to do. My uncle spends several hours a day keeping up their home, then trying to distribute and pass on items. Then the rest of his day he spends with my aunt at her facility. They still eat 2 meals a day together. They are still an integral part of each other's day.
They have been a wonderful example of committment for us. We'd like to give back in some way, we'd like to hand over "cash" to that realtor, which will hand it to the assisted living facility & free our uncle from the additional stress.
We do have plans for the workship once our uncle passes on. There are 2 budding artists in the family. It would be pleasant to have a place for them to sharpen their own crafts of painting, glass blowing and clay. But, that's another story.
Please assist us by making a quick and generous contribution. I am hoping we have at least 3 weeks--that is a crazy short time, but perhaps, with your help, it is possible. Cordially, Tina
