Marley's Mutts Dog Rescue hasn't added a story.
Miracle Mutts is Marley’s Mutts Dog Rescue’s community outreach endeavor, through which volunteers utilize therapy dogs for interactive education, emotional enrichment and job-skills training. Our volunteers
collectively contribute hundreds of hours of community service each month. We are continually growing, and developing new and innovative ways to extend our reach. We need help keeping up with the costs associated with expanding our wonderful programs. Won’t you please become a part of our movement to educate, inspire, and empower our local and extended communities?
Your financial contribution to the Miracle Mutts program will help us:
(A) Recruit and train more quality teams
(B) Purchase a “Miracle Mutt-Mobile” and fund trips outside of Kern County
(C) Pay for custom-designed curriculum, which we may then make available for purchase to other rescues and educational organizations
Our Miracle Mutts youth programs are a form of “preventative education”, the goal being to stop the problems of pet abuse, neglect, abandonment and overpopulation before they begin. This means educating young people about the importance of:
(A) Spaying and neutering pets
(B) Thinking of pets not as disposable objects, but rather family members who need mental and physical exercise, a healthy diet, love and acceptance for who they are, and support in becoming the best they can be
(C) The great potential (both they and) dogs have to learn, work, and become contributing members of society.
In addition to reaching out to kids, we interact with teens and adults in our community in positive, meaningful, and impactful ways. The following activities fall under the umbrella of Miracle Mutts:
- Testing, training, and certifying therapy dogs through the AKC
- School assemblies and classroom presentations
- College campus visits for stress relief during finals
- Our Barks and Books program at Beale Memorial Library, where kids ages 5-12 read to dogs to increase reading skills and comprehension
- Visits with children with autism at Valley Achievement Center and H.E.A.R.T.S. Connection
- Life Skills/Dog training classes with women in drug and alcohol recovery in residential treatment at the Mission at Kern County
- Speaking to Scouts of America, Rotary Club of Bakersfield, and Woman’s Club of Bakersfield
- Providing support to children and families at the Bakersfield Homeless Center
- Bringing dogs to visit with seniors with Alzheimer’s disease at the Bakersfield Alzheimer’s Association, Bakersfield Senior Center, and Glenwood Gardens
- Empowering children, teens, and adults with learning, emotional/behavioral, and developmental impairments at A.B.L.E. (Adult Based Life Experience), Aurora Learning Center, Shafter Youth Center, and Friendship House
- Speaking engagements at meetings, conferences and symposiums
- A partnership with Hoffmann Hospice of Bakersfield, wherein we are training a resident therapy dog for their new hospice home facility opening in the summer of 2015
