Anthony Braxton has been so much a part of my life. Ever since seeing him a few times in the early 70s at Rose Records and meeting him in the Jazz Record Mart also in the early 70s and his acceptance of my score of the first modern work written for the hurdy-gurdy back in 1982 (for his "score archive" he said).
"3 Compositions of New Jazz" and, especially "For Alto" jump-started my interest in playing alto sax and the whole AACM situation made it possible for me to take drum lessons (my main instrument at the time) from Steve McCall. A solid inspiration in my life along with Cage and Stockhausen (both of whom I later studied and became friends with). Thank you so very much!
