HOPE Helping Out Pets in Effingham hasn't added a story.
HOPE needs donations to pay for Princess's poor tibia to be fixed. It is broken. We have rescue for her recovery but its teh vet bill HOPE is taking care of. Please help us with a donation as Princess could really use it.
HOPE was at the shelter on Friday for its Open House. Just about leaving time a man walked up with the cutest most adorable puppy. We asked him about her as he was bringing her as a drop off. After stories did not match up HOPE had to step in to get this baby emergency medical care.
After taking her to the vets office literally 10 minutes after she got to the shelter, HOPE was trying to figure out what was wrong with her leg. The vets initial assessment was a snake bite. But after touching her leg so much she began screaming. Do you know what it is like to hear a little puppy screaming for its life due to pain? I do and it was horrible. We knew right then we had to get x-rays to see what was really going on.
After x-rays it was determined she did not have a snake bite but rather a broken tibia. This was causing her great distress and shaking due to the pain. The vets office provided a splint and pain management for the night and she was to have surgery to heal her broken bones. After the weekend of being in a corrective bandage she showed signs of healing. More x-rays were done. It was determined the best course of action would be to bandage her and allow her to heal on her own.
This was not a decision to be taken lightly as the rescue group taking her was involved in it as well. The decision was made by all of us and also due to her age. We found out this baby was in fact a baby at only 8 weeks old. She will require a new bandage each week for 4 weeks and another set of x-rays at the 4 weeks to see how she is doing. We have an 80% chance she won't need the surgery.
She will be going to a rescue and into a great foster home that is capable of working with a special needs like this. As she must be crated for 4 weeks with NO outside time except to go potty. She cannot even come out except to be held. We will name the rescue at a later date but want her resting for now.
The vet bill is estimated at about $600 now but we still have another set of x-rays. This is a vet bill we never expected going to an Open House at the shelter but a vet bill we knew was necessary. Can you please help us out with donations? We only are able to do our work from donations. Any donation is a good one. We gave her a name and decided to call her Princess, but the rescue decided she looked more like a Cricket and now that is her new name. Please help us help Cricket.
