"Krow's TRANSformation" Documentary:
Our Plea:
We are thrilled to be sharing with you the first peek, not only of our documentary trailer, but also allowing me to introduce you to our amazing documentary subject KROW, and as well invite you to be a part of Krow's amazing 3 year journey from 'female' model to male model.
This is an up-close and personal film about Krow, who once was a female model from ages 12-18. In 2015, Krow and his mom Lisa, approached me to produce Krow's very LAST photo shoot as a 'female' model. I was blown away by his courage of becoming his true self as a male and immediately said "yes, of course"! After sleeping on it, I asked them both if they would consider allowing me to follow them and to document Krow's extraordinary journey through his transition, and all of the outcomes along the way...and they said 'yes'! I say "they" as I follow both Krow & his mom Lisa, who's story is equally important showing the parent's side of transitioning.
WHAT IS THIS FILM REALLY ABOUT?
FROM THE DIRECTOR:
PHOTO: Director GINA with subjects KAS, KROW & ASHTON. Photo by POOYA NABEI
On a very serious note I hope by the positive nature of this documentary, and Krow's reveal to the world that transitioning "isn't as scary as they thought", hopefully we can help many kids, teens & adults going through this alone...maybe even save a life. - Gina Hole Lazarowich, Director.
HOW IT STARTED:
PHOTO: Krow previously working as a 'female' model...
PHOTO: Krow today working as a male model
Our documentary covers the entire journey from these first shots of him as a 'female' model, all the way through to the story of how he became a successful International male model today.
SHOOTING BEGAN SEPTEMBER 2015:

PHOTO: KROW's 1st shoot day, TONY PANTAGES (Camera)
I have referred to this documentary throughout the 3 year shoot, almost as a 'how to' transition. We show the day-to-day 'tasks' at hand of what (and how) it takes to transition from a female body to becoming male; 1st Testosterone shots, gender marker changes, 1st shave, surgeries (including full breast removal), and all the highs and lows that go with this very brave journey. We did as well have a lot of laughs over the years of shooting, as Krow is just so 'happy' to be transitioning...but we do tackle the tough stuff, emotions and stories of what life was like prior to making the decision to becoming his authentic self. We also share other brave stories, some heartbreaking, of some amazing individuals like Kas Baker (Krow's Trans Mentor) with wife Emily, and Ashton, whom is also Transgender and has been Krow's best friend since elementary school, where they both attended as 'little girls'.

...and what an outcome! Oh, wait until you see it, it is quite possibly one of the most satisfying and amazing life TRANSformation's one could personally witness and document, it shows that if you have the courage to transition, great things can happen to you.
HERE'S THE CATCH:
I jumped into making this film with NO FUNDING, I had an opportunity and had to 'seize the moment' and run with it. So we started off on our own, with the exception of donations from a camera/lighting rental store (Beau Photo in Vancouver, Canada), some crew donating their time, and stealing money from savings & working on productions to pay hard costs, I managed to stay afloat for THREE YEARS of shooting. But now the money has run out and I need to finish this film, post production is not cheap.
HOW CAN I GET MORE INVOLVED WITH THE PROJECT?
Spread the word via social media. While the fundraising is a critical part of our focus right now, we also want to engage the community in any way possible. Highlights
See all activity140Hello to all of our documentary supporters, I still have to say without all of your help this film would not have been completed without you! Updates! If you have been following our social media accounts you may have seen that Tony & I (husband/executive producer) & I have been doing some globe trotting to festivals with our film. We started in London in September where our film had the honour of ‘opening’ (a HUGE deal to open a festival) the 27th Annual Raindance Film Festival in London! Crazy there with tons of press and all of our subjects were there to walk to red carpet, it was like a dream... Then we flew back and a few day later jumped on another plane down to California for the Cinema Diverse Palm Springs LGBTQ festival where we were voted “Audience Favourite” (favorite in the US??) at that festival THEN a couple of weeks later we flew all the way to Spain as part of the Evolution Mallorca International Film Festival...they treated us so well (a car to pick us up and drive us everywhere during the festival, we felt like ‘somebodies’ lol). We stayed for closing night and the awards ceremony, which was all in Spanish, so I really wasn’t paying much attention...then they called out the top honour prize of ‘Best Documentary Feature’ (I thought we lost from the first prize handed out to a kid filmmaker from Australia for best International doc)...they talked and talked about the this film at at the end I heard them say “Krow’s TRANSformation’ and I looked up from my purse in shock! Tony said ‘go go!’ And him and I went to the stage and accepted a beautiful trophy (designed by a famous abstract artist) and babbled onto about 500 people at a standing ovation! It was a very surreal experience, I still wish I knew what they said and doubly wish I could speak Spanish! We are all off the Victoria this Tuesday Nov 19th to screen our film in the Legislature to BOTH sides of the Government AND Opposition! Of course in separate rooms as they are not thrilled to screen together, lol, but I am willing to sit through it twice to show our politicians, as I believe learning empathy for the Transgender & LGBTQ community starts at the top and then will cause a trickle down effect of positivity. ....and then, the very next day (WEDNESDAY NOVEMBER 20th at 8:00PM!) our film launches publicly on the OUTtv Network! I am excited to watch it in real time, no PVR-ing! If you want to watch it, OUTtv is available through you cable (call Shaw or TELUS), Mandy called and it’s only $4 PLUS you get my favourite show ‘RuPaul’s Drag Race’, which I am a huge fan girl of, a bit obsessed actually, lol... Also there is an OUTtv App called “OUTtv GO!” Where you can stream it (avails also through Amazon Prime and on Apple), so lots of ways to see it on Wednesday! I know you all donated and I’d love to send it to you for free but I am under strict contracts as it is being shopped worldwide now...also OUTtv really needs the help to stay afloat, their funding was cut buy the Federal government and every click helps...$4 for our film AND RuPaul is a fair deal too lol! So thanks again for being a part of this amazing journey, it has already helped kids (one 13 year old Trans boy hugged me after a screening and through his tears said, “I didn’t know what to do”...), so be VERY proud that you are a part of helping get this film out to these kids...we are also teaching the Heterosexual community as well ❤️ Stay tuned in on Wednesday and look for our posts in the Legislature on Tuesday! Thanks again, Gina xo

Hello everyone, I am so sorry it has taken me this long for an update! We have been so busy getting ready for festival season, and it is upon us now...we leave this weekend for London where our film was selected by the 27th Annual RAINDANCE FILM FESTIVAL to OPEN the festival! We are still in shock, I mean, Quentin Tarantino opened at Raindance, totally nuts our film is following in those shoes! So this is big for all of us, and everyone is flying in, all of our subjects! No we could not fly everyone in unfortunately, we didn’t reach our total fundraising goal but we did get the film finished and licensed, THANKS TO ALL OF YOUR GENEROUS DONATIONS totalling over $16,000!!! We can’t thank you enough for your support of our film, without you we would NOT have gotten the documentary completed, it is that simple. We are applying for Telefilm funding and a BC Arts Council fund to get a few dollars to put towards travel costs...we are heading out around the world now to promote the film at festivals so it will get picked up in other countries. We have also been accepted to the CINEMA DIVERSE PALM SPRINGS LGBTQ FILM FESTIVAL, screening Sept 28th (I’ll be there if anyone can join us!) and as well 3 other very exciting festivals reached out to ME to enter our film! I can’t say the names yet until they do but please follow our Instagram & Facebook pages @krowstransformation to hear the upcoming announcements. We are also waiting on acceptance emails from other festivals we applied to, so stay tuned! Anyone in London on Sept 18th (opening night) or the 24th (a 2nd screening) please join us! Here is the link for tickets: https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/opening-night-gala-krows-transformationshort-film-nimic-party-tickets-69440346947?aff= Once again, we thank you all from the bottom our our hearts for your help in getting this film finished ❤️ Stay tuned for a release date in Canada on OUTtv in December! All the best and watch for posts from the festivals! - Gina Hole Lazarowich Director/Producer “Krow’s TRANSformation”
