Brittney Michelle hasn't added a story.
Hi! My name is Brittney Kitchens and I am 26 years old. I recently graduated from California State University San Marcos with a Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Studies. I am currently working for an after-school program with the 4th and 5th graders.
I was diagnosed with a rare form of Muscular Dystrophy at the age of 2 which made me become wheelchair bound at age 10 due to increased muscle weakness. Despite my diagnosis, I have tried to live my life as independently and fully as I can but there are obstacles I face on a daily basis that many people tend to take for granted such as opening doors, picking items off the floor, etc… Having a service dog will give me the ability to continue living my life with the much needed independence I crave.
I am a very outgoing person with an amazing support group of family and friends that help me whenever needed but I would like the ability to go out in public alone without worrying about dropping my phone/wallet and having to ask a complete stranger to help me.
I am beyond blessed to have the opportunity to possibly receive a mobility assistance dog. Service dogs are extremely expensive to train—it takes a lot of patience on the behalf of trainers who work with them on a daily basis to teach them specific commands and to train them to not become easily distracted in public. Dogs are expensive in general (vet, grooming, and food) and because of all the expenses it takes to raise/train a service dog, it then becomes expensive to receive one as well.
If you are willing to donate to help me become more self-sufficient, I will be forever grateful to you.
Thank you in advance for your kindness.
