My name is Joshua Myers, I am seeking sponsorship to allow me to train full-time toward my goal of making the 2016 Paralympics in Rio De Jinero Brazil.  As of July 1st (My 34th birthday), I will have 799 days until the Paralympic Games.  I am currently ranked 12th in the World and need to be in the top 3 or 4 in order to make Team USA.  With your help I know I can make it!

Why I am requesting this sponsorship?

I am requesting this sponsorship because I have run out of other options to attempt to reach my dreams. I understand that it is difficult for companies to sponsor me because disabled sports reaches such a small market and is hard for them to see a monetary return on their investment.  I have reached out to large companies like Under Armour & Adidas to no avail.

I am the first to admit that I have a lot of work to do to make the 2016 Paralympics, but with this opportunity I know that I will do it! Continuing to work a 40 hour a week job and be the responsible family man that I want, and need to be doesn’t leave much time (or energy) to train like I need to.

Although I have aspirations to compete in the 2020 Paralympics in Tokyo and the 2024 games (if they are held in a U.S. city), as I age my cerebral palsy will continue to get worse (if I’m not able to train full-time and participate in physical therapy), Rio is my best chance to become an Olympian based on time alone.

Most importantly I want to be an inspiration to others and show that any dream is possible if you work hard enough and go after what you want!

“Follow your dreams is the worst advice. Follow your efforts and where you want to put time!”– Mark Cuban

I want to put my efforts and time into training full-time to make this dream a reality, to do that I need your help!

What I will do with the Money?

The money raised in the sponsorship opportunity would replace my current salary and help my family pay our monthly living expenses. We do not live an extravagant life style, nor would I start with any money raised.  If I were training full-time I would also blog daily training activities and a monthly living expense blog so sponsors could see how their money was being spent.

I know that I do not current make an average of $45,000 a year at my current full-time position, I am asking for this amount to allow me to purchase the different life insurance policies that I would lose by no longer working in corporate America. Any additional money not used on living expenses would go towards physical therapy, something I am not currently able to participate in because of my current work schedule.

What can you get for donating money to my dream?

I can offer two different rewards to those wanting to help make my dream a reality.

1.  For a $25 sponsorship I will provide 1 hour of personal training and nutritional consultation. If you are not local to my area and would still like consultation I can provide a virtual nutrition and exercise program via email specific to you.

2.  For a $40 donation I can offer a T-shirt that will commemorate my Paralympic journey with the Just Max Fitness Logo on it. The t-shirt will be made of dry-fit material, but I'm not sure what color's yet (I am open to suggestions) . I need at least 12 donations of the $40 to have the shirts printed.

If you are the decision maker of a company and able to sponsor a larger portion of my journey as a text write-off, I would be willing to provide any inspirational speaking engagements or appearances that you desire.

I am open to listen to anyone in the e-commerce industry who may be interested in purchasing my company, my story and my likeness to help me turn my website into what I envisioned 4 years ago. All negotiations must include a potential job offer upon the end of my Paralympic career.

What happens if you don’t make the team?

If I receive enough support from my family and friends (and the people that they know), I know without a doubt that I can make the team. But, if I were to get injured in training or somehow did not make the team, I would spend the rest of my life paying the people back who believed in me, starting with the first sponsor and working my way down to the last.  What other athlete do you know that will do that?

What happens if you don’t raise enough funds to train for the two full years?

I plan to quit my full-time job when I have raised enough to train for 6 full-months (around $25,000). If the money stops coming in at that point (or some point after, I will look to re-enter corporate America with a more flexible schedule and continue to train working toward my goal.
