I am opening an Autism School... I need your Help. I was blessed with not 1 but 2 children with severe Autism. Both boys have delays in speech, social and mental capabilities. He has been classified as a range 3 (hurts self or others) and requires 1:1

I was blessed with not 1 but 2 children with severe Autism. Both boys have delays in speech, social and mental capabilities. One has been classified as a range 3 (hurts self or others) and requires 1:1 at all times. Traditional schools are not trained in ABA.They are not sensory driven nor do they understand his way of communication (picture symbols). They cannot meet my son's needs in the traditional ways of teaching. He needs computers and set teaching structure. He needs to be able to move when needed and a quiet place to go when melting down. I will not have my son removed from class because he is flapping and squawking out of joy or frustration. However I do understand how this can be disruptive to other students and therefore have made the decision to home school for the moment. The only private school for Autism is full. It is located over an hour away.

So because I want my son to go to a school that

1. has the tools to teach him

2. allows him to achieve every goal he chooses

3. supports him becoming the best he can be

4  allows him the freedom of the playground

5  lets him make friends

6  begins teaching where he is - verbalizing and life skills.

This means starting an Autism School in the Fraser valley where he and others with disabilities can be taught based on where they are, not where they should be. Where each person has an individual plan for success and where every child is celebrated not forced into situations where they cannot possibly succeed given their limitations and the limitations of the public school system.

We will use the same methods as PALS Autism school in Vancouver. They have had tremendous results in the 7 years they have been operating. The school uses the proven Applied Behavioural Analysis (ABA) method to provide core education, life skills and socials skills as a foundation for independence.
