Jenny's Story
Jennifer Deaton Lancaster
Jennifer and her family need our help! In April of 2005, Jenny was diagnosed with Carsinosarcoma. It is a rare and aggressive form of cancer. She was not given much hope from the start. They knew that she was in a later stage. At the time, her daughter Abigail was only four years old. Jenny told very few people what was going on because she didn't want Abby to worry about her mom. In 2008, the cancer came back to her pelvis. By the time it was discovered, the mass was eight pounds and wrapped around and pressing against her siatic nerve. She was given twelve weeks, five days a week, of pelvic radiation. They gave her the maximum dosage allowed. After her PET scan, it came back showing the tumor was completely dead. After six months, they did a follow-up scan and it showed the cancer was in her pelvic bone, lungs, and abdomen. They sent her home telling her to call Hospice and that she had six months to live, and asked if she needed help with end of life care. She never forgot the ride home. Jenny and her husband, George, rode home in silence, caught in a their own horrible nightmare of thoughts.
That night, after everyone had fallen asleep, she got down on her knees and cried out to the Lord. She asked the Lord for her life. From her bible, she read "I shall not die, but live, and declare the works of the Lord." She knew in that moment that she would not die of cancer. She did not know what she would have to go through, but she had complete faith, and swore to live long enough to raiser her daughter, to see her graduate and married. She would live, and give the glory to God.
In 2010, Jenny developed celulitus in her right thigh. When they tested her to find the cause, they found a tumor in her bladder. When they looked for previous instance of cancer, they found none. Before surgery, she undertook three months of a cocktail of chemotherapy. She finally had to tell Abby about her cancer. She asked Abby, sitting in her lap, if she would thank God for healing her mommy of cancer. She replied, "You have cancer?"
After the chemo ended they had to wait for her body to regain the strength to undergo surgery. In March 2011, she went through a nine hour surgery, removing the cancer that had invaded her bladder. As a result of the tumor blocking her left kidney, her kidney failed and no longer worked. Since then, she has been cancer-free. However, she has gone through five surgeries to fix the damage caused by radiation. She has developed Lymphadema in her right leg and severe neuropathy in both legs from the chemo.
From 2011 to 2012, she lost 100 pounds and developed several more health problems. Her doctors finally learned that her body wasn't properly abosrbing nutrition from food. For months she had to go once or twice a week for IV hydration and electrolyte supplementation. In June in 2012, due to low calcium, she turned the wrong way and fractured her back. She had another surgery in October of 2013 due to radiation damage. They discovered a polyp that was biopsied and came back negative, but it quickly grew back and forced her into another surgery on January 24th, 2014. Jenny just recently turned 50 years old.
Weeks later, she had to call an ambulance and was rushed to the hospital. She had a blood infection, UTI and was severely dehydrated and malnourished. She went into acute renal failure and gained 70 pounds of fluid in a couple of weeks. She spent 27 days in the hospital and is now home. We cannot end this story without mentioning her wounderful husband, George, who has stayed by her side every step of the way. Every day, he told her she was beautiful. This proved to her the meaning of in sickness or through health, for richer or poorer. Her daughter has turned into a strong, compassionate and mature young lady, soon to turn 14 in July.
Her husband was laid off of work when the economy took a downturn and still has not been able to find employment. HIs unemployment has run out. Jennifer and her family need our help!
