My name is Cassie, and I am the proud mom of two autistic kids, and the loving spouse of one of Canada's disabled veterans suffering from PTSD and a damaged back. We have been raising our family on disability benefits for over two years.

I am writing a book, entitled: "The 'A' Word: The Parenting Guide Nobody Gives You", which is about the (sometimes funny) challenges of raising autistic children. I have been writing creatively for many years as a hobby, but for the last year or so I have been pushing to make it my career, so that I can get my family off disability benefits and give them a real life.

In October of this year, I hope to attend the Surrey International Writer's Conference.  Attending for the whole weekend will give me the opportunity to network with agents, established authors, editors and publishing houses, as well as learn valuable information for getting my name and my manuscript "out there", and help me to hone my craft.  As you can no doubt imagine, attending will be extremely beneficial to my career.

Because my partner and I have been raising our family on disability benefits, I am not in a financial position to put out the necessary money on my own, hence the need for fundraising.

I've projected a budget of $2000.  That amount will cover my travel, registration and accommodations for the conference, as well as some money left over to help me cover the costs associated with getting myself published (editor, agent fees, publishing costs, etc).

I thank you all for your consideration.  I hope you can help me get my book published, so that I can get my family off of disability benefits.
