Jenn has been fighting her battle with Leukemia but now we have encountered a new battle (side affect) called AVN (avascular necrosis). AVN is bone death caused by the medication, Prednisone, that was used to treat her Leukemia. It is a rare side affect and she has been affected severely. Although the medication was stopped, the damage continues. She is scheduled to undergo bilateral knee surgery on July 16th. They will attempt to use her own stem cells implanted in drilled channels in both knees with the hope that the bone will regenerate and grow. She also will have a bone graft placed in the right knee where deterioration of the bone has already occurred. This procedure will hopefully work to relieve the pain she endures every day and allow her to dance again. MRI's also revealed that she has AVN in both elbows and shoulders. We are unsure at this time what treatment will be needed for the elbows and shoulders. With the future holding numerous trips to Philadelphia for treatment, follow up appointments, possible revision in a few years, as well medical expenses that have already begun to overwhelm us, we are asking for help with her current expenses as well as for future treatment that will be needed.
