Susann and Hajime found one another in Japan and then built a life together in Edmonton. They are both dedicated teachers who give much of their lives and their love to their profession. You can see their story here: http://www.cbc.ca/player/News/Canada/Edmonton/ID/2386713624/
Last year, Susann was diagnosed with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), and the illness is progressing quickly. A woman who was once filled with vitality has been reduced to weakness, fast becoming paralyzed in her own body. That this terrible tragedy happened to people as loving and giving as the Sakaguchis only compounds the calamity. Against incredible odds, they found one another... then they built something really special here and we came to know them... now this. It certainly wasn't supposed to happen this way.
The Sakaguchis need $200,000 worth of renovations to their home just so Susann can stay and live with her family, and they deserve whatever help we can give them. Even if we don't reach our goal, we can afford them the opportunity to choose to rent something that grants more accessibility. Any money we can raise will be used to help keep their family together.
