A Syrian woman age 40 who is suffering from PTSD from her experiences in her country has been living in Santa Cruz for over a year (after going through the tough process of receiving political asylum), but is now facing homelessness. Currently, the funding for her room at a SC County Mental Health supportive housing unit has run out and, although she is a legal resident with a green card, she has not been able to receive Social Security benefits because of her citizenship status There are actions being taken to appeal this decision, and it takes time for the paperwork to be processed. Meanwhile, this vulnerable woman is in desperate need of funds to allow her to pay rent for the room she shares in a supportive house in Santa Cruz. $1,200 would pay for 3 months of rent. Hopefully this will be enough time, and the authorities will approve her case. This woman has been making progress in her healing over the past few months, and has much potential to recover. Please help us to keep her safe while the beaurocratic process unfolds. This woman cannot be left out on the streets. Please help.
