Help us heal these 'broken hearts'. Clinton, Georgia, Julie, Louie, and Suede have life-threatening heartworm disease, and with treatment costing around $500 per dog, we need your help to make them well. More ...
Momma Suede came from a shelter where she and her pups were scheduled to be killed. Their original 'owner' just wanted to be rid of the pups, so he pulled them from their mother, blind and defenseless at just two weeks old, and left them at the shelter to die.

Thankfully, animal control officers went to the man's home for Suede and reunited the family at the shelter. A volunteer contacted BWAR for help, and we scrambled to find a foster available to care for them. It was a long and confusing day for Suede, but once settled into her new foster home, this brave girl literally sighed with relief as she laid back to nurse her pups in safety.

But while Suede narrowly escaped death in a shelter, her struggle for survival is far from over.

Suede has heartworm disease: a very serious and potentially fatal condition. She is one of over a dozen dogs we have in our network right now who are heartworm positive.

Louie is a mellow, 4-year-old boy who knows yoga. (When you say "yoga," he does the downward-facing dog position.) Julie, a St. Bernard mix, likes to chew on tennis balls and will lick your face forever. Like Suede, these two dogs and many more urgently need the expensive and lengthy treatment to kill the worms strangling their hearts and lungs.

But at up to $500 per dog, our limited budget is severely strained. We need your help to get them the care they need to save their lives.
