Our handsome and loving Maine Coon cat, Krampuss, was hit by a car in late November of 2012. At only 9 months old, he survived the accident and was able to pull himself off of the road, down three flights of stairs, and into our bed. That is where we awoke to find him sleeping at our feet, bloodied and swollen.

After rushing him to emergency care we learned that Krampuss had suffered a broken nose, a fractured upper and lower jaw, and a crushed eye socket. His injuries were so extreme we had to drive him 3 hours away to a specialist surgeon at Massey University.

The staff all agreed they had never seen such an upbeat and loving cat with his level of damage. Even with a broken face, he nuzzled and purred at all the doctors and nurses, becoming a favorite amongst the staff.

The vets were able to reconstruct his face by wiring his jaw and using acrylic to bind his teeth. He was going to be fine but his healing process would be painful and he would have to be fed through an esophageal feeding tube for 6 weeks.

There is never good timing for a tragic event but this was an especially bad time because my boyfriend Jamie and I had to travel overseas for an entire month and our plans could not be changed. Unable to leave Krampuss's around the clock care to our friends we were forced to leave him at the vet's for 32 days.

The moment we returned home we ran to pick him up. Greatly improved, he threw himself into our arms. 24 hours later his teeth were unwired and, although slightly crooked in the face and missing a few teeth, he was once again free to be a loving a carefree kitty.

Krampy is laying across my legs, content and restful, as I write this. Our hearts are full and we know we made the right decision by not putting him down. BUT his survival did not come for free and the bills we have accrued run into the thousands. Some people buy diamonds, some buy electronics, we invested in our furry friend's life.

Every step of the way through this process you our friends have given us an outpouring of love and support. Some by feeding the cat, some by coming for 12 hour vet road trips, some by feeding Jamie and me. Many of you have reached out to us, offering to help pay for the expenses. Until now we have lovingly turned you down.

Yesterday my friend Kelly Marie persuaded me to accept your help with the simple phrase, "He's our cat to!"

So, if you would like to help we are making this account available to you. Please know that there is no pressure from us in anyway and we are profoundly honored to have friends that would push so loving to assist us. You are all amazing and have made this healing process an eye opening experience about community.

Much Love and Gratefulness,
Elise, Jamie and Krampuss
