Niko, my Eskie furbaby of 13 1/2 years, needs surgery asap to remove a mass in his abdomen. Five problems were found unexpectedly in the last 2 weeks that will require 1-4 (or more) surgeries and likely over $10,000 in vet bills! I rushed Niko to the vet for a suspected injury... thinking possibly a splinter in his paw... and was told he had a torn cruciate ligament in his left hind knee. That was bad enough, but it was far from the end. The vet felt something in his belly and took an x-ray. That's when they found the mass which appeared to be in his spleen. We could also see a stone in his bladder that will be too large for him to pass. I was devastated. Since then, an ultrasound and fine needle aspiration results have shown that the tumor is most likely a lipoma. They're benign tumors, but it will continue to grow and needs to be removed. The ultrasound also showed one of his adrenal glands is enlarged indicating the possibility of Cushing's Disease. While he was sedated for the ultrasound, they did an orthopedic work-up in preparation for surgery on his knee and found he also has a cruciate tear in his right hind leg. Due to a pre-existing condition, Niko has not been eligible for insurance since he was a puppy, so I am responsible for 100% of his care. He has already had surgery twice in the last year. And I am struggling with some exhorbitant medical bills of my own. So I have no choice but to ask for help. Niko means the world to me. He came home at 6 weeks old and 3 1/2 pounds on January 8, 1999 and has been my whole heart ever since. He has helped me through the hardest times of my life. So I need to know that I've done everything I could for him. Right now that means putting aside my pride and embarrassment and asking for help because, if I don't, he will die... and I don't want to lose him! I have started a Facebook page for him called Team Niko where you can read more of our story, see pictures and get updates. You can find it here... https://www.facebook.com/pages/Team-Niko/363269863739062. Thank you for reading this. If you're able to help, any amount is greatly appreciated and will go to off-set the cost of Niko's pre-op, surgical and post-op care. I've already spent just under $1,000 to get to the diagnosis. And, if you could PLEASE SHARE with your family, friends and social networks I'd be eternally grateful because I believe that those who are able to help will find us through the generous sharing of our fundrazr so thank you. I'm also giving back (in ways that I can) to all those who give to help Niko. You can find out more on his Facebook page. Love, (((hugs))) and kisses, Debi & Niko 7/15 - Getting ready for Niko's 1st surgery. Update is on his Facebook page. Prayers appreciated <3
