The World Will Open
My name is Sam Lipman, and I am a composer based in Austin, Texas. In the summer of 2024, I met Grammy Award–winning soprano Hila Plitmann, who encouraged me to create something new for her voice. I soon partnered with Texas Poet Laureate Carrie Fountain, and together we began work on The World Will Open.
This new song cycle celebrates the quiet victories of our city and reflects deeply on parenthood, visibility, and existence itself. Conceived for full orchestra and voice, the music continues in the tradition of Strauss and Korngold—lush, emotional, and expansive.
Right now, we are sharing the very first steps: an intimate version for string quartet and soprano. But the true vision is larger. We are working to raise the funds to bring this piece to life in its full orchestral form.
