My 5th grade students have been home learning for the past year and a half. Now that we are back in school full time, I want to foster friendships and the joys of being a kid. One way I am doing that is by incorporating art weekly. My students last full "normal" year of school was when they were in 2nd grade. They deserve to enjoy the small things they missed out on the last two years. 

Having time to do art each week allows the students to interact with their peers and relieve a bit of the stress of living through a pandemic as a 5th grader. It teaches them to enjoy creating, and to be ok making mistakes and turning them into opportunities. Besides all that, it's fun!

The problem is, my art supplies are incredibly low. I purchased them for my classroom a few years ago and they really need to be replaced so that my current students can continue to create and have fun. Some things we would like to use in our classroom are watercolor paints, felt tip black pens for outlining, and "skin" color oil pastels to match the diversity in my classroom.

The joy that my students express during out art time on Fridays is palpable. They get excited to share their spin on the project and always point out their specific art piece as we walk down the halls. This year we have only been able to do drawing pieces due to our low supplies, and I know they would be even more excited to share different types of art.  

Any donation to help buy new art supplies would be greatly appreciated and bring joy to my sweet 5th graders who, without you, would not have this opportunity to create and enjoy being a kid.
