If you ask most people who their best friend is, they may tell you it's their significant other, a family member, or someone they grew up with. If you had asked me before yesterday, I would have given you a similar response. Yesterday changed my perception and my life; I have come to the realization that my best friend is a five-and-a-half year old dachshund named Schatzi, and as his best friend, it is my duty to look out for his best interest and reach out on his behalf.

Yesterday morning, I had to admit Schatzi to the Veterinary Emergency Clinic to treat encephalitis, a disease that causes acute inflammation of his brain. Before yesterday, I would have told you that he was perfectly healthy. I made sure his vaccinations were always up-to-date, fed him the best food, and gave him more love than you could possibly imagine; Some might even call him a little spoiled! All of that doesn't change the fact that he is currently in the Intensive Care Unit. As you can imagine, I did not suspect that he was seriously ill and I definitely didn't think that we would be in the position we are in today. After just over twenty-four hours of treatment, I have already spent a tremendous amount of money to try to keep Schatzi alive, and if money was no object, I would stop at nothing to keep him with us. Unfortunately, I am quickly running out of funds to give this little guy a little more time to respond to the costly treatment he is currently receiving. Right now, he is neither improving nor deteriorating, and I need to give him just a little bit more time. Unfortunately, time in Level 3 ICU comes with a price tag of $750/day.

Anyone who knows me, knows that I never ask for a handout and that I work hard every day of my life, but I am desperate, and I need help. If you can help me with a monetary donation, I will appreciate it more than I could ever tell you. If you can't, that's ok too and I understand because if someone asked me for even $1 today, I honestly wouldn't be able to help out. All I ask, either way, is that you send Schatzi positive thoughts and pray for him. Thank you.
