Dachshund Rescue South Florida hasn't added a story.
It has been an unprecedented week for the DRSF Community and just when we think we might have a moment to catch our breath, another little one comes to us in need and all we can do is cross our fingers, say a prayer, and hope you will stand behind us for one more urgent need this week - an IVDD Surrender....Meet Speckles.
DRSF received an e-mail this afternoon from a family who was out of options for a little girl that they loved very much and needed our help for Speckles who had gone down two days before and the best advice their vet could give them was to help her across the bridge. They knew that was not the right answer, but they did not have the resources to be able to give her the care that she needed. Could we help?
We could not let this little girl be helped across the bridge, so the DRSF team voted, rallied, and agreed to bring her in. Pam went to meet the family, who is facing an extremely difficult set of cirumstances in that not only are they being forced to move to a place where they could not take Speckles, but their elderly Grandmother, who was ready to take Speckles, could not handle a down dog who needed to be expressed.
The holidays are a time of miracles and although we have had two this week, we are pressing our luck and going for three. Pam made arrangements to meet the Family and get Speckles and then get her to Dr. Wong and the team at Southeast Veterinary Neurology who was standing by to meet them.
Dr. Wong performed an MRI and saw a badly damaged disc, and they immediately went to surgery to give her the best chance as by Dr. Wong's estimate, she only had a 50/50 chance, and as we know with IVDD, time is of the essence.
We are not quite sure how or why all these dogs are coming to us in need of such extreme help, but we have to believe there is a reason and we have seen such amazing and heartwarming messages this week and the DRSF team has our fingers crossed that maybe, just maybe, we might have one more big push in us to help Speckles have her wish to be able to walk again.
We have asked for so much this week, but we will continue to help as long as you continue to believe in us. Will you help us fund Speckles IVDD surgery, who will be our 10th in 2014 and our 29th since our team formed?
We welcome donations of any size, and even if you are not able to donate, we still welcome you to leave a message of love and support for Speckles to help her feel the love that is coming her way <3
