Our beautiful dog Chloe is a 6-year-old pitbull/boxer mix who has been hospitalized since this past Monday, August 18th. Her doctors don't know exactly what is wrong, but her lungs are leaking air into her chest cavity. She is not responding to medical treatment, and now needs surgery to have any chance at coming home with us. Unfortunately, that surgery will cost more than we could possibly come up with on our own, and the hospital will not continue treating Chloe without payment. So we are turning to friends, family, and strangers to try and save our precious girl.

From the beginning:

On August 16th, Chloe was found to have a pneumothorax (free air in her chest). After her doctor removed the air from her chest, she was breathing much easier. However, on Monday she was sent to the emergency hospital when her condition worsened. She was struggling with each breath. As soon as we walked into the hospital, she laid down and began to slow her breathing. She was taken back to the ICU immediately, where she stopped breathing completely. Her heart stopped beating for several minutes. The doctor was able to resuscitate her, but we were given little hope that she would make it through the night. Our sweet Chloe's vitals were unstable, and although she was breathing on her own, she was still struggling.

We spent that entire night praying desperately and by God's grace, Chloe began to stabilize overnight. When we saw her around 4:00 Tuesday morning, she was in an oxygen cage (a completely enclosed cage with extra oxygen pumped in), had a tube in her chest to drain the air, and was hooked up to all sorts of IVs. She looked awful, but gave us a wonderful moment of hope when she opened her eyes and looked at us for the first time since this all began.

Since then, Chloe has appeared to be improving. She's alert, coughing less, able to walk, and eating/drinking. However, the doctors are still aspirating a good amount of air from her chest tube every 4 hours -- and unfortunately, that amount has been increasing over the last couple of days.

We are at the point now where conservative medical treatment is no longer working. Today, Chloe's doctors told us that they still don't know why her lungs are leaking air. None of the x-rays have given a definitive answer, other than that her lungs don't appear normal. To have any chance of figuring this out and helping Chloe get better, she needs to have surgery. Then hopefully the surgeons can identify the problem and remove it.

Doing the surgery would cost around $5,000, in addition to what we've already spent. And the doctors have been honest with us; it might not cure her. But after much discussion with the doctors and intense prayer, we have decided to fight for Chloe and trust God. We are giving her a couple more days on the stronger antibiotics while we try to figure this out.

We greatly appreciate any help at all, even if it's just a couple dollars. Even if you can't donate, please share this page with everyone you can, and more than anything, please pray that our sweet Chloe will pull through this.

Thank you,

Guin & Ryan Brown
