Steve Dennis for Cottage Grove City Council hasn't added a story.
Help elect Steve Dennis to the Cottage Grove City Council on November 4th! Our goal is to raise funds ($2000) to assist with advertising measures necessary to promote Steve’s Campaign. Your contribution will allow us to achieve our goal of notifying the entire community. Let’s make a difference together by electing Steve as the only “Local” Cottage Grove Business Owner on the panel!
Your donation is extremely important and appreciated!
Steve Dennis - bringing a business owner's approach to the Council Table...
Priority One: “Help us to fill our empty spaces” which is the greatest challenge facing our community! Our retail and commercial areas and our business park that has over 400 acres of land ready to develop via corporations, light manufacturing, etc. are awaiting the opportunity to begin producing “business related” tax base. This funding will generate revenue to repair our roads and infrastructure, provide some much needed amenities like a Community Center, and give our property owners a reprieve on their taxes.
Priority Two: Work to establish “Sustainable Economic Viability” through the implementation of an 11 step program Steve has created. To market our community effectively, we need to make ourselves attractive to those looking to invest and create an environment conducive to success for all by establishing a diverse range of opportunity. By working with our citizens, local business and land owners, and focusing directed efforts to educate, promote, retain, and recruit, we can achieve success and start competing not only to keep our local spending here but also begin drawing in patrons from other communities to support our economy. Bottom line… it’s all about how we “line up” with the needs, wants, and expectations of our community. Whether retail, service, dining, or entertainment, Steve’s program will assist in accomplishing the goal of improving Cottage Grove’s quality of life.
Priority Three: Respectful, dedicated service. Steve is a veteran manager with 27 years of experience and has had the pleasure of orchestrating success through two unique careers (Law Enforcement and Retail Management/Business Ownership). Steve’s goal is to work as an “Ambassador” for our community and be out front working to promote the ideals of making Cottage Grove be the “best Cottage Grove” we can be! Working to build trust and connections, Steve will work to effectively serve the members of our community and establish a productive atmosphere/working relationship with our Mayor, Council Members, and our City Staff. Integrity, honesty, timely dedication, and defined achievements will be the hallmarks of Steve’s commitment. Taking care of the “people’s business” is an honor and Steve looks forward to the chance to work on behalf of our community!
Who is Steve Dennis?
“I have lived in Cottage Grove for 25 years and have been proud to call this City my home. My wife Kathy and I have been married for over 28 years, raised our two children here, and have been home owners since 1989. We have also invested in the community by opening a "brick and mortar" business – Dennis Brothers Liquor – in 2003.
I bring a diverse experiential background and unique skill set that I believe would serve me well as a local leader and “difference maker.” I grew up in St. Paul, graduating from Cretin High School in 1984. I also graduated from Brown College’s Broadcast Communications Program in 1986 before studying towards an AS of Liberal Arts at Inver Hills Community College. Professionally, I have worked for a number of organizations including the Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis (Protection Services/Law Enforcement Department), Securian (formerly Minnesota Mutual Companies), Sunglass Hut International, and Successories of Minnesota. I had an 11-year law enforcement career with experience in areas of supervision, training, and being licensed as an Emergency Medical Technician (NREMT-B). My continuing 17-year retail management/business ownership career includes professional titles Store Manager, Senior Store/Multi-Store Manager, General Manager, Area Director, and Owner.
Within the community itself, I volunteered my time for 3 ½ years to the Cottage Grove Police Department where I was originally hired as a Police Reserve member before being promoted to a Part-Time Minnesota Licensed Police Officer. While in this capacity, I was a Recruiter and designed a state of the art training program for our team. I also served on the 1994 Cottage Grove Pavement Taskforce Commission.
As a local small business owner, I understand all facets of managing people and resources well to the “bottom line.” We could have selected any location for our business but chose to invest in Cottage Grove because we believe whole heartedly in the viability of our community and its people. In every aspect, Cottage Grove has been very good to me and my family and for that I am truly grateful! Now is my time to give back…
Thank you for your time and consideration. I seek the opportunity to serve our community and to do my part to direct, promote, and manage our progress in a way that provides citizens with the greatest level of results. If elected, I would be the only local Cottage Grove business owner on the City Council and my investment in our community is your proof of my belief in our area and people. Our business, Dennis Brothers Liquors, has attained the distinction of being Minnesota’s Top Rated Beer Store. And, we accomplished this on the edge of a “corn field.” Just think what I could do for Cottage Grove! Please join me and let’s make a difference together! I humbly ask for your vote."
