Jackelyn Brannon hasn't added a story.
Meet Roxie the beautiful black mini-schnauzer in the picture. She is suffering from pain and chronic bladder infections due to 5 large bladder stones that need to be removed urgently. She is pictured with her human siblings and her furry brother Toby.
We rescued her in May 2013, she was likely used to breed multiple times and was never given the urgent medical care she needed. It took a while for us to discover her medical needs as the previous owners did not disclose that information. She came to us at 14 very thin pounds, a sweet and loving dog who is ultra obedient; maybe too obedient- she doesn't know how to tell the children no when they get a little to rough with her.
When we first got her groomed the groomer was concerned by the atrophy in her paws and how boney she was, it took extra care to clip her fur because her skin was so close to bone that groomer was afraid she might cut her skin by accident. The paws may indicate that she spent a lot of time in a crate with no tray present.
About 8 months ago she went to the vet because I noticed blood in her urine and that she was having episodes of incontinence. Diagnosis was bad bladder infection and they found bladder stones. We treated with medication and she became symptom free. The vet recommended surgery to remove the 3 large stones seen on xray. Estimated cost $1500-1800 !
A month after that vet visit our special needs child ended up hospitalized again and required constant parental supervision after he came home; we became a single income family of 5 with 2 furry babies. We did what needed to be done to meet his needs and thankfully 6 months later our child is doing better, but with the job market currently in an unfavorable state we are still single income despite searching; thus preventing us from having an additional $1500 to get the surgery...but good news Roxie had been symptom free.
In mid May Roxie suddenly became ill one Saturday evening, belly extremely bloated and she was crying out often in obvious pain. Trip to the ER vet -xray showed 5 large bladder stones, she was in pain because of a bad bladder infection again. The ER vet recommended suregery asap and also suggested we check into a spay neuter clinic about an hour form home that they heard does other surgery to prevent Euthanasia.
Long story short the clinic will do her surgery- cystotomy (bladder stone removal) for $300 and spay for $125. They don't have the ability to take care credit which we were approved for to cover the ER visit. We have paid for her pro-op assessment and lab work at Potomac Spay & Neuter Clinic 9975 Pennsylvania Ave, Manassas, VA 20110; (571) 208-0199.
We urgently need your help to cover the remaining $425 for her much needed surgery that is scheduled on 6-17-14. Fundrazr has a small fee so the goal is set at $475 to help cover that as well. Any additional funds received will go to the clinic as a donation to help another family that may be in a similar situation.
Roxie is a part of our family, our kids love her and our other Schnauzer Toby would be heartbroken if he lost his packmate. We don't believe that she should have to die to be out of pain. Please donate to save Roxie. If we can't get funding I have to surrender her to a rescue so she can get her surgery, that would break our hearts and put her in a stressful situation of transition in the midst of a difficult surgery and recovery.
