When I came upon "Little India" she was obviously distraught.

"Whose cat is this?" I asked a neighbour.
"It was this lady's (pointing to the basement window) but she moved 5 days ago."

My heart broke into a thousand pieces. All I could do to rationalize this situation is hope that this sweet cat's family had no other choice - that some horrible twist of fate left them with no other decision; because, the alternative - intentionally leaving your beloved pet behind, scared and alone with no access to food or water - is too horrible to imagine.

There was no choice but to run home, get a carrier and bring her back to our house. The next day, we took her to the vet to discuss the option of opening our home to her. We discovered she needed many tests, bloodwork, vaccines and an expensive surgery to correct a possible hernia.

$1500 later, we were faced with the awful choice of having to choose between money and kindness.

In an opposite twist of fate, we were contacted by a wonderful organization, VETS Animal Charity, who are helping us to make the transition of giving Indie a forever home a little bit easier.

All funds raised in this FundRazr will be donated directly back to VETS Animal Charity so that they can continue their selfless mission of helping pet guardians care for sick and abandoned animals.

Alternatively, you can donate directly by calling VETS Toronto and ask to donate on behalf of India Ku:
