"There are over one million children entering the sex trade every year and approximately 30 million children have lost their childhood through sexual exploitation over the past 30 years."

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

Warm holiday greetings to you all~~!

This winter, Onnuri English Ministry(OEM), led by Pastor Eddie Byun, will be sending us to Cambodia on a short-term missions trip to work with Agape International Missions(AIM). Through many of these OEM short-term missions, numerous long-term missionaries have been established. Onnuri has sent out 1700 long-term missionaries since its inception 28 years ago following its vision to be the Acts 29 church by sending out teams to establish healthy reproducing churches in every country in the world.

As many of you may already know, there are 27 million to 30 million slaves today, and approximately 79% are exploited sexually, with 18% being exploited through labor trafficking. According to the Global Report on Trafficking in Persons by the United Nations Office of Drugs and Crime, worldwide, almost 30% of all trafficking victims are children. However, in some parts of the world such as the African or Southeast Asian regions, children are the majority (up to 100% in parts of Mekong region—Thailand, Myanmar, Vietnam, Laos, Southern China, Cambodia). Children in Cambodia, as young as seven years old, are subjected to sexual servitude and hard labor. Many tourists do not know these girls are enslaved and forced to smile as if they are enjoying what they do.

Human trafficking is a huge pandemic in Asia, with traffickers finding that it is more profitable for them to sell young girls than commit other crimes such as selling drugs. Prostitution is illegal in most Asian countries, but widely accepted, as the laws are not properly enforced. There is also the misperception that those who enter the sex industry willingly cannot be victimized. "Modern day slavery involves emotional shackles that can’t always be immediately seen." This pertains not only to sex trafficking but labor trafficking as well. Outreach and prevention programs are essential in rescuing victims, restoring hope, and most importantly—spreading the gospel. Christ is the only way these injustices will be rectified.

This is why God has called us to Cambodia this winter to work with AIM We hope that all of us can seek justice together. We are currently preparing ourselves to serve others and glorify God in Cambodia, and we are still in the process of fundraising for our calculated expenses which include airfare, living accommodations, on-site missionary support, supplies, arts and crafts, food, etc...Our fundraising campaign will last a duration of 15 days, and we hope you can partner with us-- even if it is just a few dollars. More importantly is the request for prayers, as they are vital to the work that God is sending our missions team to do. We would be thankful if you could please pray for our protection, safety, obedience to God, and above all, that the people of Cambodia would come to know and love Christ. If you could support us financially in any small way, we would be so grateful. Thank you so much, and God bless!

In Christ,

OEM Winter Short-Term Missions Cambodia Team
