Our dog and companion, Kitsune, was hit by a train on October 22nd. She escaped her backyard by climbing over a 5-foot fence, and found her way onto nearby train tracks. She was hit and knocked unconscious while the entire train continued to pass over her body. She is currently suffering from head and spinal trauma. She luckily escaped fatality with manageable injuries considering she was hit and passed over by the length of a train. It is an act of God that saved her from dismemberment and death.

On a Hike

Kitsune is a 2 year old Shiba Inu. Her name means 'Fox' in Japanese, which is commonly attributed to the likeness of a Shiba Inu, and is the cultural origin of Shiba Inu descent. She is a loving, energetic and grateful dog that any owner would be lucky to have. Her favorite food is a well cooked and lightly seasoned steak, however she doesn't discriminate much against most canine-friendly foods. One of her favorite things to do (besides going on walks and playing with other dogs) is to clean the eyes and ears of our FIV positive rescue-cat. Her spiritual mother, a Siberian Husky named Saya, misses having her favorite playmate, and is stressed because of her absence. Our family just isn't the same without our loving and humble Shiba...

Kitsune and Saya

The veterinarians are very hopeful that her various conditions will improve. She is currently on oxygen to prevent any further brain injury or swelling. In the coming days she will be removed from oxygen and other injuries will be addressed. She ate her first successful meal (Steak!) two days after the initial injury which is a great sign of improvement, however she is still in need of back surgery to fix dislocations and fractures in her spine. She can currently apply pressure with her hind legs—a sign that there is not excessive nerve damage that would lead to any paralysis. Back surgery would realign the dislocations in her lower spine so her fractures can heal properly, and hopefully ensure that she will regain full use of her hind-quarters, gifting back her life as fun-loving Shiba Inu.

Afternoon Hike

As her guardians, we are hopeful that she will be able to regain most of her functions after her back surgery, however it is going to be a long road to recovery. As responsible and loving pet owners, we are dedicated to ensuring that she has the best care available, however this does not come without a hefty price-tag. Many owners would not go through the process of recovery that we have chosen for our loving animal, but there was never a moment of question in our minds. We are committed to ensuring that Kitsune has the best life possible after this horrible accident, taking our veterinarians advice as the best course of action.

Everyones Best Friend

When all is said and done we will be left with a $10,000.00+ veterinary bill, a number that will be well worth the cost to have our 'little dumpling' back in our life. Obviously, this is not something that we can easily afford given our working class circumstances. Kitsune's guardians are both students, with part-time jobs to make ends meet. We pay bills and live day-to-day. ANY amount donated will greatly reduce the amount of stress that we are already enduring. We understand if you cannot donate at this time; we simply ask you to pass the word along to your own social networks and encourage those able to aid Kitsune's path to recovery to do so. Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, GooglePlus+, MySpace, LiveJournal, and other social networks are amazing ways to spread the word about Kitsune's one-in-a-million-miracle story. Just simply posting Kitsune's story on your site and passing the word on about our loving Shiba Inu will be a great help.

Kitsune thanks you for reading her story.
Her guardians thank you for your efforts.
