If you are the owner of a doxie, you know how they walk into your life, steal your heart, become a family member, and will do anything possible, like a good doxie lover would, to see your dog happy and healthy. One doxie is just not enough. Slinky was saved from being put to sleep because Dachshund Rescue South Florida saved her as they do with so many other doxies, http://www.dachshundrescuesouthflorida.com/DRSF_DogsAvailable.html .
It was love at first sight and she fit in with the other 4 rescues that I have. She has a vibrant personality and has brought much joy and vigor into our home. On Friday, she went down. I immediately took her to the vet and she was put on meds. After almost 24 hours of no bladder response and no improvement, it was time to seek the expertise of Southeast Veterinary Neurology. Any doxie owner needs to keep this number available if they want the best care possible should their doxie go down, www.facebook.com/Southeast.Veterinary.Neurology.
All of Slinky’s playmates are medically needy in some way. Snoopy came into my home four years ago, he has a heart murmur and up until, this year we were just keeping eye on it. This year Snoopy had had a relapse and was in congested heart failure. He now is on three different heart medications, along with bimonthly vet appointments for blood work to check his cardiac and kidney function. He came to us torn up by a dog attack with a hernia. After hernia surgery, he developed diverticulitis and cannot have surgery due to his health condition. He takes lactulose two times a day. Reese had IVDD surgery two years ago and presently suffers from an enlarged heart and is on medication as well as quarterly vet visits to monitor his heart. Belle and Squeek have both had IVDD Surgeries. Squeek also had surgery this past January for oxalate bladder stones.
At the moment, Slinky is at the Veterinary Neurology and due for her MRI in the morning and surgery after. I left a deposit, but I know that her expense will be around 5,500.00. I am gathering everything in my home that can be sold of any kind of value to pay this vet bill.
I need your help. If you feel in your heart that you would like to help Slinky, I would greatly appreciate it. No donation is too small. Donations can be made by calling Southeast Veterinary Neurology, 305-274-2777 and asking them to put it towards Slinky’s expense.
