My Aunt Linda Walker Forbes was recently diagnosed with breast cancer. She found out she had this illness shortly before breast cancer awareness month. Heightened awareness and the need for support made her tell just a few close people in her life. Our family is devastated but with the strength and determination she has she has kept this a secret from everyone except me, her son and her significant other because despite her current circumstances she doesn't want sympathy. She told me that she just wants normalcy and to be treated as she always has been. My sister is a remarkable individual and that’s why she is loved so much. Linda is so focused and so strong. She raised her children and she is now a full time grandparent to her twin grandchildren. She may as well be a mother again as she is raising the children as her own and ensuring not only their basic needs are met but their developmental, cognitive and all other needs and desires are met. Yes, the twins are spoiled. After surgery she will need to undergo vigorous daily treatment to ensure recovery and resume care of not only the twins, but the many family members and close friends she has dedicated her life to caring for. Those who know her well know working in social services for over 20 years she has dedicated countless hours to the care of others, mainly children and the preservation of the family. With the many doctors appointments, shock of being diagnosed and the full time care of the twins she is no longer employed. Right now she is struggling to make ends meet although, I don't know how she has managed, has kept her head above water but barely. Medical bills are mounting and the cost of traveling to treatment 5 days a week will definitely have a financial strain on her after surgery next week. Our family is asking for help. We have lost so much this past year, her mother (my grandmother), my sister (her niece), our aunt and a cousin. We just want to make sure she has the best care and pulls through this. Our loss has been tragic this past year and we don't want to risk losing her. Again, those who know her know we would all be losing a lot. I know she would not be happy about me doing this but her recovery will overcome her pride. I am asking for a small donation from those who can, know and love her to help her and our through this difficult time. I know her first priority is those babies but if she isn't here and healthy she won't be here for them or any of us. If you cannot donate just pray for her and our family, she needs to know she is in your thoughts and prayers. Right now she is overwhelmed, never really being sick, for the most part healthy, going to a Surgeon, Radiation Oncologist, Oncologist as well as she regular doctor has been quite stressful for her. Despite this knowing that you care and are praying for her will help her get through this. I know my aunt she would say if you can't donate to her give it to research. There are so many women in her situation, and research is the only means of a cure. We lost an aunt to this disease and have donated and supported the cause for years. Linda is one of many and let it be known that helping her is helping millions. She will be out there with her feisty self educating, researching and heightening awareness. Thank you for your time and attention. It means so much and please share this information with your friends. God bless.
