Hi everyone! It's not very often that I ask for help, especially financially -- please read about Venus and help if you can! At the beginning of March I agreed to foster 2 cats for what was supposed to be 2-4 days max (just a transition home where the old owner could drop off the cats until the interested adoptee could come over to see them). A few days later a wonderful lady and her son came over, fell in love with 1 of the kitties and took her home. I ended up, quite unexpectantly, with Venus who they weren't interested in. Venus is a beautiful, black, spayed female, approximately 11 years old. I imagine you're wondering why I don't just send Venus back to her previous home. Venus' previous "mom" was a rescuer who was in way over her head. At one point she had well over 20 cats, and they've been moved from Florida to Arizona to Reseda, CA. The "mom" devoted so much to the cats that she actually lost her home. At that point she was able to enlist the help of her son and daughter-in-law who have been working hard to try to find homes for the remaining cats. However, the situation became URGENT when neighbors of the daughter-in-law started poisoning the cats, reporting them to animal control and taking it upon themselves to remove the cats. We now have just a few left to place, but it's urgent that we do so because FELIX, one of the sweetest of the lot, was found dead of poisoning a few weeks ago. Several other cats have gone missing--perhaps also poisoned, picked up by Animal Control, or ???. So, sending Venus back to Reseda is not exactly an option. Venus is running a major ear infection, needs to have her vaccines updated and an overall veterinary check-up. If I had the money to just take care of this myself -- I most certainly would have done so already. Those of you who know me also know that I've never asked for financial donations for ANYTHING, EVER. But, it pains me everyday to see her waiting for the medical care she needs. Working as a veterinary technician for most of my life, I have estimated that I can have her examined, her ears cleaned, purchase the medication she needs, and update her vaccines for $150-$200. Please -- consider donating what you can so she doesn't have to wait one more day with this infection! I have set my goal amount at $500 as there are at least 3 other cats in this group of rescue animals that also need or have already received medical care at the expense of fosters like me. Another foster has taken it upon herself to open her home to 2 cats, vetted them both and even paid for dental work. Anything beyond what Venus needs, will go toward the medical care of these other cats. Anything beyond that, will go to updating the remaining cats in this group on vaccines, medical care and providing better food to make them that much more adoptable. Also -- Venus IS available for adoption if anyone wants to learn more about her please email me: flkapala@ucdavis.edu Please share this far and wide!! And THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart, for helping her! Please note I am not a non-profit, just a single person trying to do what's right by this cat while she waits patiently for her forever home.
