Neoliberalism, Get Off OUR Bike
a fundraiser for D10/11 SUB/URBAN REVIEW
For too long, urban planning media has been trapped between two poles: culture-war outrage and market-friendly boosterism. Every problem is solved with a real estate deal, a public-private partnership, a tech app, or a property value increase.
We're building something different.
An independent publication that asks:
- Who benefits?
- Who is displaced?
- Who owns the city?
- Who gets to move safely?
- What would planning look like if working people were the client?
What raises property values is not our concern.
We want to know what expands freedom for the working class.
Every dollar is a bike lane between journalism and capital.
Speaking with Dr. Chas, of New Jersey (born in Wisconsin). He is
a primary investigator at the USDA. He is a socio &
environmental biologist focusing on prosocial methods,
cooperation, and co-operatives.
Corporate sponsors do not decide our stories.
Developers are not underwriting our investigations into development.
Our transportation coverage is not measured by clicks and
engagement metrics.
We say no to business lobbies masquerading as bike advocacy.
We want readers to own the publication (and we're looking into a
cooperative model).
We update weekly on our FREE digital site and we put out a
year-in-review annual guide that you can hold in your hand!
We have a track record and you are supporting a broader ecosystem:
- The Three Practices discussions-- Listening circles that listen and support prosocial discourse, where the goal is clarity not agreement.
- Bloomfield Avenue Is a Commons events-- Discussions on viewing our streets as a point of connection and thriving.
- Podcasts and interviews
- Local reporting
- Public forums
- Fellowships (community & paid work) for working-class writers
Help build an urban planning magazine rooted in working class
values that answers to readers, not capital.
We need monthly
gift friends, so we can plan, pay staff, and continue to challenge
billionaires who want to look at everything in exchange value terms
and we are LITERALLY challenging billionaires.
We will of
course accept one time gifts.
