Gabrielle O'Neill hasn't added a story.
I'm officially a contender in the 8th annual Aprons for Gloves!
Working as a mental health worker in the DTES, I was introduced to the amazing East Side Boxing Club through the frontline fight club, an initiative to help frontline workers deal with the stress's of the opioid crisis.
I wanted to take part in the restaurant rumble to have something important to work towards. Boxing has helped me so much with my own mental health and I think if we can help kids develop healthier lifestyles then we are doing the work. It's important that we set up future generations for success and well being.
So really I'm writing this because I need your help. I want to train my butt off, to raise money for the gym's after school programs and their mom for tots boxing program! If I can reach the goal of 2000$ you might even see me in the ring!
Most importantly, this is what the kids get: fitness, food, clothing, community support, health care, tutors, Peer-Leadership program. ALL FREE. Because of the money YOU help me raise!
This is what the mom's get: A barrier-free, structured, regularly scheduled non-contact box-fit class with childcare provided! Again, ALL FREE because of YOU!!!
This is the goal. And by goal, I mean, Fundraising Deadline.
● $500 - 2 July 2019
● $1500 - 1 August 2019
● $2000 - 15 August 2019 (min not max ;) )
Obviously more cash money means more happy kids, more happy moms. So don't hold back.
...That being said, really anything helps, even if it's only sharing the campaign.
I really appreciate it. Thank you all.
See you in the ring. xox
Founded in 2012, Aprons for Gloves Boxing Association is a non-profit organization focused on providing community outreach through the sport of boxing. Based in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside, the organization was developed by a small group of professionals and entrepreneurs who seized an opportunity to re-establish a historic boxing program for at-risk women and youth. The program offers free mentorship and training to individuals who may otherwise not have the resources or support to participate in such activities. The sport of boxing teaches discipline, respect, hard work and self-control. Training results in positive self-esteem, good health and camaraderie for its practitioners.
Restaurant Rumble 2019
Every year bartenders, chefs, dishwaters, servers, baristas and all sorts of individuals from the Gastown community get together to train at the Eastside Boxing Club to fight in Restaurant Rumble.
In order to attend training, each fighter is required to raise $2000 for charity before they can compete at the Rumble.
