Cedar Park Middle School, Heidi Vandenhoof hasn't added a story.
I am a 7th grade science teacher at Cedar Park Middle School. I have been teacher since 2000. Kids have always had a hard time staying focused and in their seats, but recently I have noticed the kids are having a more difficult time staying focused. If a student have brought in their own fidget cube or clay they seem to have a better time staying focused. I have also noticed that 7th graders have a difficult time staying seated, especially for 90 minutes. Kids naturally wobble on their chairs, shift around or if they can't stand it anylonger get up and move around. Recently I visiting a classroom where a teacher had received a grant to create a fidget friendly environment in their class. She had purchased, yoga balls for kids to sit on, Hokki stools that wobble, chairs pads that have both texture a the ability to move, fidget "toys" to keep young hands active. Her classroom behaviors have significantly improved since she start her new fridget friendly environment. I decide that this was exactly what my students needed! So I am asking for help to be able to create this in my classroom.
If I am able to fund this project, I will purchase the following items:
Hokki Stools: a $120/each
Yoga balls: $20/each
Fidget Cubes: $10/each
Chair Bands: $15/each
Liquid Timers: $5/ each
Koosh Balls: $6/each
Other small figet toys
