Tommy Thomas hasn't added a story.
After detecting symptoms of temporomandibular joint disorder it becomes important for an individual to seek medical attention so as to help in diagnosing and also treating the problem. There are other conditions that can cause similar symptoms like TMJ disorder hence visiting a medical professional will help in identifying what the problem is, some of the conditions with such similar symptoms include: sinus problems, decay of the teeth, arthritis and gum disease which affects the mouth. The dentist help in figuring out what is the main cause of pain in an individual whereby they ask questions about the history of one's health and after explanation, the dentist goes ahead and does a physical examination to help identify whether the information which has been provided is true.
The dentist is able to use all the necessary means so as to get the main cause of the pain that might be coming from them muscles or from the jaws. He is able to check on all the jaw joints for any pain or any form of tenderness in the muscles. Still during this diagnosis, the dentist might decide to have a very careful listening of the clicks or pops or grating sounds that might be coming from the jaws. These sounds helps in detecting the particular part which is affected and it also helps in identifying the kind of problem it might be. When going through the diagnosis process, the dentist takes some of their time so as to determine whether the affected jaws are working properly the way they should work or they whether the jaws are not locking after the mouth is opened of close at any particular time. Still the dentist is supposed to check and test the bite of the mouth without forgetting to check on the particular problems that might be on the muscles of the face.
Sometimes it might require the patient to explain whether this pain has been there for long time or whether they have ever been subjected to any kind of hitting or not. The dentist who carrying out the diagnosis of this TMJ disorder can decide to take a full face X-rays so that it can be possible for him to be able to have a very clear view of the jaws, temoromandibular joints and the teeth in order to be able to give a clear ruling on whether there are other problems or not. There some other specific tests that might be carried on the patient such as subjecting the particular patient to magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) or subjecting them to computer tomography (CT). The MRI is very important since it helps to give clear details on whether the TMJ disc is in the proper position when one is have a jaw movement. Performing a CT scan helps in showing clear bony details of the particular joint under scrutiny. Sometimes the problem might be very worse prompting the dentist to refer you to an oral surgeon for the purposes of further care and treatment. When going through this diagnosis process the dentist might decide to give you some drugs which have the best TMJ pain relief in case the pain is so severe for one to tolerate.
