Jazz and Lucky are two Portuguese Water Dogs who were sold to two families as young and healthy and were in fact in poor physical condition and in much need of medical attention. Both families attempted to contact the breeder who would not return their calls or emails to discuss the medical issues and reimbursement. Additionally, the breeder did not supply either family with any previous health information or the promised AKC papers after they had paid for the dogs. The two families refused to return the dogs to the "breeder" as they did not want them returned to a place where their medical needs were ignored and they had lived in pain. Both dogs need surgery for severe entropian of both eyes, a genetic disease of the eyes where the lids are turned in and the lashes irritate and scatch the eyes.  In addition, Lucky had worms and several infected razor burns and a swollen scrotum due to complications resulting from the neutering arranged by the breeder. Jazz was underweight and had a severe case of dermatitis covering his whole body probably due to allergies. His skin was inflamed and covered with bumps.

The combined medical expenses outlayed by these two families is over $6000.00. We have set up this fund so that anyone in the Portuguese Water Dog community and any friends and relatives who would like to donate to help with these expenses can do so here.
