In 2010, we were looking for a dog at the rescue centre. My husband saw a puppy named Tara and we fell in love with this girl. The love was mutual, Tara was also running towards us, then laid down on her back and looked at us with the sweetest eyes.
We decided on this dog and were willing to give her a new home and life. We were informed that she was tested positive to canine leishmaniasis which needs to be treated. But that did not deter us and was no reason for us to change our mind about adopting her. We agreed to carry out the necessary treatment cost on us.

As Tara came with us, it was like she was coming home. Our two cats loved her as well. She got her pills every day and the necessary rest. After some time, a new blood test was taken and it showed negative results. We were, however, aware that this disease is always latent, it “sleeps” so to speak, in most cases, forever. Since Tara was always calm and balanced and we have a peaceful household, the prognosis was good and we were very happy. We had lots of fun with Tara, everything was going good, the disease was forgotten for 5 years.

Then Tara got a dental fistula, which was not detected during the earlier vet exam. She had to go under the procedure. Both for Tara and us that was a lot of stress and she suffered greatly from the situation.

In mid-October this year, a mammary gland tumour was noted and it will need to be removed. Tara was delibretly not spayed becuase of her earler mentioned condition. We decided on this after consulting the vet, in order not to "awake" the leishmaniasis, but dogs that are not spayed have higher risk of developing this type of tumor.

This will be another procedure causing extra stress to poor Tara, but unfortunately it is inevitable. We have put this fundraiser on to try to get some help with the bills. Throughout the years we have financed the treatments ourselves, but any help would be highly appreciated. We will do all we can to help Tara and no cost for us is too big. She has been out sweetheart since the day one and we will go through this obstacle together one more time.

Thank you so much! Patty Rob and Tara
