Rosie was hit by a car yesterday

Rosie and her brother, Flynn are playful pit bull mix puppies approaching their first birthday. They were adopted together at 4 months old by the Nguyen/Lee family of Holtsville. They are never apart, and love their neighbors so much that they sometimes dig under the backyard fence and stroll into my yard to say hello and play.

Yesterday their playful, curiosity and roaming had terrible consequences. As I was out with their family searching for them in the direction they roamed, they unfortunately ran out into the road in front of a family van and Rosie was struck, breaking her leg. Flynn never left her for a moment.

We took her to an emergency animal hospital immediately where all the necessary tests were done. Rosie sustained a front left leg fracture that requires it to be pinned into place via surgery. We were able to get her splinted and sent home with pain medication, until we could find a surgeon willing to work with the family's financial depression.

WHY WE ARE ASKING FOR YOUR HELP:

We've all been through hardships in our lives, and we understand that pet ownership is a big responsibility. This family understands that also. They waited a long time to take that responsibility. Jackie suffers from heart disease since her early thirties. She was clinically dead and revived a few years back only to be in a coma for three months and hospitalized for a year. She has since been dealing with rehabilitation of mind and body since the coma damaged her neurological system. BUT Jackie is a surviver.

Unable to work, but able to help in the care of her dogs that she later adopted through a friend, she finds peace and comfort from her depression through her dogs. She also has 5 children ranging from 23 to 12. You can imagine what education and care costs for children, I'm sure. Jackie's husband works up to 7 days a week to try to keep the family afloat, but now deals within other health issue: Jackie has breast cancer.

Knowing how important the dogs are to Jackie, and the family's stressful situation, I am asking YOU to please find it in your heart to give what you can to them so Rosie's leg will get the necessary surgery they cannot afford and will heal properly.  And the two dogs can stay together with their family.

Warmest regards,

The Garcia family
