From Jan & Lee - This Bike ride will raise money for a cause that is close to our hearts...animals! All the money will go directly to help stray and abandoned animals in Spain. Whilst Phil and I were in Spain we were shocked and upset by the number of stray animals wondering the streets trying to get scraps of food from bins or from animal lovers like us, we wanted to know if there was anyone that was trying to help? We then found a charity Animals In Distress (A.I.D), in our town. They run a charity shop and also have afternoon teas etc to raise money for stray animals. We met up with Joe who runs the charity with his wife Jan, who started helping animals in 2006 and then became a registered charity in 2008. Since then they re-home an average of 250 animals per year, with more money from fundraising they could increase this number. The couple or any of their volunteers DO NOT take a wage of any form, all the money raised goes directly on the animals. The funds raised are allocated to the following:

• Vet consultations

• Dog – Leishmaniasis test and treatment if applicable

• Tablets/injections

• Drops/collars for protection against flea, tick, mosquito

• Sterilising dogs & cats

• Vaccinations

• Worming

• Special Puppy/kitten milk + food • Microchips

• Unexpected operations

• Flight/road transport for homed animals here and abroad

• Blood samples and passports

• Sterilising feral cats whenever possible.

• Projects expenses to help animals that come into our care.

• Dog food

• Cat food

• Cat litter

• Collars and leads

• Animal houses for refuge/foster homes

• Beds

• Toys

• Other unforeseen expenses to help the animals.

Phil and I have only been riding for exactly a year, I have only 1000 miles clocked up on my bike so far and here we are planning this epic journey to help the charity which will be 2000 miles in 8 days!

Our journey begins in the UK, Hull on 6th August and will take up to Belgium. Luxembourg, Germany, Switzerland, Italy, France and finally through Spain to Malaga!

This is going to hard work, especially for me as up to last year I didnt even drive a car (i still dont) so I have 1000 road miles experience, thats it! You will be able to follow our progress on facebook and twitter '8 Countries in 8 Days Charity Bike Ride', where I will be sharing photos and stories of back pain and the countries we visit.

ALL travel expenses, hotels etc will be paid for by us NOT from the money raised.

Any amount of money you can donate will be massively appreciated, every single penny counts.

This has become more relevant for us since first writing this as we sadly lost one of our amazing dogs this weekend, our big cuddly German Shepherd Jack - he had an amazing life which every animal deserves, so please help other animals get loving homes by donating.
