Dog4U, Inc. Cat Program: At the tender age of 1 month and 4 days. Little Twinkle was found hiding behind a trash can. She was taken to the vet, Wateree Animal Hospital of Camden, and her FIV/Feline Leukemia combo test was negative. She was too young to get any vaccines and came home to foster care. The next week, though she showed no signs of pain and seemed to progress normally, it was noticed that she seemed to favor her right rear leg. Back to the vet we went, the x ray revealing a broken femur complicated by a fracture of the head of the femur which was old enough that it had started to heal improperly. After consulting with orthopedic specialists the veterinarian gave us the news that though the long bone repair could be made, the head of the femur could not be repaired. It will not function as it should and will cause her extreme pain as she attains full growth. She was so tiny that the recommended amputation could not be performed safely until she is about 16 weeks old and has sufficient blood volume to survive the operation. She is very healthy and has had her first set of vaccines. She is almost big enough and in another week she will have a recheck with her second set of vaccines. She has pain meds for her bad days which are more frequent as she grows. Her surgery is estimated at $1500.00 and we can’t make it happen without help of kind people like you. She is a real sweetheart and we have been assured that the success of early amputations is far better than waiting until the pain in her leg is so great she cannot walk on it. Dog4U, inc. is a volunteer run no kill animal rescue, we do not have the funding to cover her surgery but we will not give up on her. Some may think $1,500 is a lot to put into one kitten when several cats can be saved for the same amount – and it is a lot. However, we absolutely will not put down a tiny, otherwise healthy, friendly kitten that has a 100% chance of successful placement in a forever home once she is healed from surgery. We are asking for your help to share Twinkle’s fundrazr and to donate if you are able to help get this girl out of pain and on her way. Our Tax ID # is 20-5311280.
