Hi. My name is Leslie and I love cats. I have 30 cats and kittens at home that need more than I can give them right now. My neighbor, Pam, also loves cats. She and her son moved in next door to my parents last summer and brought along several indoor and outdoor cats. The cats in my neighborhood must've talked to one another and spread the word that my house was the place to go if you wanted food and love. As more cats showed up, I took them in. I was unable to get them all fixed in time, so the few I started out with turned into many. Pam used to live in a neighborhood where people would torture and kill cats. She started rescuing them off the street and brought them to our neighborhood, where they have a nice, stable home. As you can imagine, the expense is outrageous: food, litter, medicines, licenses, vaccines, etc.. I live at home where I take care of my disabled parents. I no longer have an income, so paying for the care of my cats has gotten to be extremely difficult. Pam works from home, but she doesn't earn enough money to take care of all of her cats and pay all of her bills. Her water and electric bills are over $200 each month, almost entirely due to taking care of the outside cats. She spends over $600 a month on cat food and litter. She used to get food donated to her, but that resource is no longer available. With the very wet spring we had, we are both dealing with terrible flea infestations. Fleas are very dangerous to cats, especially to kittens. I have four one week old kittens right now and two one month old kittens. Pam has three two month old kittens and more on the way, as one of her outdoor females got pregant by accident. Recently, Pam lost several kittens due to anemia that was brought on by the fleas. That happened to me last summer, so I know how painful it is to experience such a loss. A lot of people have told me to get rid of the cats; to take them to our local humane society. The problem with that is that they are already overrun with cats and kittens and can not take anymore. I know there are a lot of animal lovers out there, so I am reaching out to you. Pam and I need help. We want to continue providing loving, safe homes to our fur babies, but we need help. If our cause touches your heart, please help us by donating money, food, litter, or anything you feel comfortable with. I have to get all of my cats licensed within the next two weeks, which is going to cost around $150. I also have to get four of my cats fixed within the next two weeks, and that will cost $100. Pam and I both need lots of flea prevention, like Revolution, to make sure our cats aren't eaten up by the little demons. Our vet suggested we start this 'fundraiser', because there are so many people out there who are dedicated to the care and wellbeing of cats. Anything you could help us with would be more than appreciated. We do not want to surrender our cats to the humane society; we love all of them dearly and want to make sure they live long, healthy lives.
