They say home is where the heart is, but some of us have more than one home. We want to lay our father to rest the way he would've wanted to be.

We have always thought of our father Julio, as the "most interesting man in the world." He was our rock and inspiration. He never failed to impress us and give us the hope to live a life half as memorable as his.

Julio suddenly and unexpectedly passed away on June 11 at the young age of 56. He had been suffering from diabetes for years and after taking a sick day, he was found unresponsive in his bed. The cause of his death was a heart attack during his sleep. Though we are heartbroken that he has left our presence, we are relieved he had a peaceful death.

Our father was a decorated pilot in the Chilean Air Force, a successful technician for the British Columbia Rapid Transit Company and a well-respected theologian and Freemason.

He did not leave a will due to his sudden and unexpected death. All of his funds are currently tied up in a bureaucratic limbo, so with the funeral expenses upon us two and our other expenses our hands are tied.

He left behind four daughters: two in Canada and two in Chile. The majority of his family is in Chile and have had their worlds shattered by his sudden death. As the above map demonstrates, his hometown Quintero is in one of the southernmost countries in the world, Chile. It takes approxiately 18 hours of travel to get to Chile from Vancouver, and a massive amount of finances.

We have decided to cremate my father so we can one day fly down to Chile with half of his ashes and have a memorial service with his family and daughters. We are hoping to go to Chile as soon as we can to get our father the rest he needs and deserves.

They say home is where the heart is, but some of us have more than one home. We want to lay our father to rest.
