Three macaques are being kept in appalling conditions in the grounds of a Buddhist temple in Vientiane, the capital of Laos. We will double any money that you donate to help move them to a sanctuary run by the charity ACRES Laos.

In January, while travelling in Laos Diane and I came across three macaques kept in appalling conditions in the grounds of a Buddhist temple in the capital, Vientiane. One cage holds two Rhesus macaques and the other a solitary, sad, stump-tailed macaque.

The temple monks are incapable of providing a suitable living space, good food or even a reliable source of water. The monks have agreed to release the macaques into the care of an expert who will rehome them.

We've found an excellent charity that are be able to help. ACRES is a charity based in Singapore that is working with the Laos government to help rehome animals confiscated from the wildlife trade. They have a sanctuary near to Vientiane where they care for rescued bears, birds, macaques, gibbons and more.

The macaques can only leave the cages once ACRES have suitable accommodation for them. We will double any money raised through this campaign.
