This is a Sherborne College backed initiative that will take me away for 4 to 5 weeks next Summer holidays to work in India on a number of initiatives and challenges to both challengs me and to help those in India less privileged than myself. As part of the World Challenge we will be working in a number of underprivileged communities to help them lead better lives. Projects are based in a schools and orphanages where we immerse ourselves in the children's culture and learn about their day-to-day life and the villages they come from. We help and educate the local children to learn new skills and teach them about the West. In addition we spend time improving their schools and surroundings working throughout the day alongside a hired local expert building and restoring and repairing their buildings and schools. In addition I will be challenging myself physically with a climb to the summit of one of the main summits in the Himalayas. We will be trekking for up to eight hours every day, navigating our own way along trails. We will carry all the food, water and clothing we need, plus any group kit that the Expedition Leader has asked us to bring, whilst being guided by Nepali guides. Each night we will camp in tents along the way. So why am I getting in touch with you on this now? Well, as part of this I am committed to raising a large part of the funds for the trip itself. And as a result I have been undertaking a various fund-raising events to allow me to actually take part in the initiative and travel to India to do this work and challenge myself. I have been working over the Winter holidays and even pushed myself recently to complete a half marathon down in Sherborne which I completed in just over 2 hours. I will be doing some more holiday work in the Easter holidays as well. I have raised a few hundred pounds so far. However I still need to raise more funds to get me to my target of £1,500 I am looking to contribute to the cost of the trip. Any contribution you might feel you could make towards the whole event would be massively appreciated. It will help motivate me over the 5 weeks am away and in the months ahead as the trip approaches. I totally understand you are likely to get many of these types of requests but I am both motivated and excited by the challenges I face with the event in a little over 3 months off. Anything you could do to help me would help me massively in undertaking what I know would be a once in a lifetime opportunity for me.
