This is Bear, our feral cat that lives under our house. January 13th he came out to lie in the sun and that's the day we noticed a trap on his leg, no clue as to how long it had actually been on there. When my husband opened the patio door, he dashed back under our house dragging this contraption with him. Desperate to get this off of his leg we started planning ways to get him. We blocked all exits and set up our security cameras under our patio so we could keep an eye on him. We baited live traps with tuna and the ONLY time he went into it the door wouldn't close because the claw trap was in the way. A bigger trap and many more attempts failed. We put a large cage under the patio with 1 side off but still attached at the bottom and fishing line tied to the top then ran the line through the floor into the patio. Finally something large enough for him to get in!! We watched surveillance for 6 hours and he finally came to eat around midnight. Once he was in and started eating I yanked on the fishing line to pull the side of the cage up and held on tight while Boo crawled under the patio to secure the cage. It was like catching a tiger, he was going crazy!! Took a crow bar to get his leg out of the trap and the entire time he was biting and yanking his own leg trying to pull it out. I got a stick and helped pry his foot out. Once he was free from the trap he collapsed and didn't move. Gave him the bowl of tuna mixed with Ace and within 5 minutes he was loopy and easy to manage. We left him in the cage all night then transferred him to a carrier this morning and took him to Dr Gary Cox Sallisaw Veterinary Clinic 918-775-6182. Vet said he is definitely going to lose his leg .. after examining him we will know the full extent of his injury and will keep everyone updated. Please visit his page Helping Bear
