My daughter Rachel is turning 11 on Jan 6. She was born with a very small upper jaw. Pain has become a huge part of her life as everytime she chews her teeth hurt. they also will ache and she has trouble sleeping. The treatment for this condition is orthodontic and requires a palate expansion, retainers and then aligning upper and lower teeth to align the jaw. She will wear a retainer on her upper palate for life to keep her jaw in place.

As many of you know, orthodontics are one area where unless you have private coverage, there is not really any outside help or government funding. I always understood ortho to be purely for cosmetic reasons and actually that is only part of it and not what we are dealing with here. Straight teeth are the least of our concerns. I hate to see my child in pain. Even with optimum treatment it is expected that Rachel will also need some extractions in the future as her jaw just will not accomodate all the teeth. She has two teeth growing into her upper palate right now that cause her pain but the dentist does not want to pull them if he can save them as they are the premolars.

The course of treatment consists of expanding the upper palate, retainers and then finally extracting and or straightening the teeth so to align the jaw. The cost has been determined to be $6,000.00 We do not have any insurance of any kind.

Some of you may know that I am going to College starting in May 2014 for an 8 month course and will become a Personal Support Worker. I hope to secure a job with benefits and help my husband to provide a better income for our family. Right now is a very hard time though and we find we are struggling to get the ortho started.

God has laid it on my heart to share our story and given me the courage to do so. If you find that he has laid it on your heart to donate monitarily or just by prayer then please accept our heartfelt and humble thanks.
