Laura Smith hasn't added a story.
Please help a family and their dogs in urgent need I was at the local supermarket today, 12-17-2013, when I saw a car with three (3) little dogs in it. Since it's very cold right now, I started asking who owned the car and I learned a woman was living in it with her dogs and that she worked somewhere around there. I went home with a heavy heart. I don't have much, as I have four rescue dogs of my own, so I posted it out on Facebook to see if there was anything we could do. The night grew closer and chances grew slim. It is tough all around right now. So I went back to this car and the car was still there with only the dogs in it. I knew I had to find the owner to see what the story was and how I could help. I found the woman working in a shop in the plaza. She told me she'd lost her husband to cancer and that she and her son are forced to live in their cars in order to keep their dogs because no one would rent to them with dogs (Chihuahuas) and they are family to her. I completely understood that. I invited them to stay ONE NIGHT at my house in hopes I could come up with something by morning. When they got here, immediately I noticed a grapefruit-sized tumor on the side of one of the pups (he is all of 5 lbs). Upon speaking with the mom longer, I learned the dog has had this for a year and she cannot afford a vet to even see what it is. The dog is 16 years old and is in very poor condition and, while the other two look healthy, they have not had their shots. I went from wanting to help this family to desperately to wanting to help this dog, who is in desperate need of medical help. As an independent dog rescuer, I cannot do it alone and am asking for your help. Please help this poor pup. I know the likelihood this dog can be saved is slim, so I was hoping we could humanely put this dog down and give his ashes back to the woman, as he has been with her for 16 years. She has shown true devotion to these dogs by living in her car to keep them safe, so please do not judge. Let's help her give her dog whatever he needs now. If there is any money left after he's taken care of, I was hoping we could get the other two dogs their shots. If you'd prefer to donate directly to my vet I use: VCA animal hospital 39 Patria Rd, South Windsor, CT 06074 (860) 528-2178 Thank you for any donation, big or small!
