THE QUADPARA ASSOCIATION OF KWAZULU-NATAL IN SOUTH AFRICA HAS PLANNED TO ESTABLISH A 6 BEDROOM CAPACITY BUILDING & CARE FACILITY FOR RURAL QUADRIPLEGICS & PARAPLEGICS.

THE QUADPARA ASSOCIATION OF KWAZULU-NATAL IN SOUTH AFRICA HAS PLANNED TO ESTABLISH A 6 BEDROOM CAPACITY BUILDING & CARE FACILITY FOR RURAL QUADRIPLEGICS & PARAPLEGICS.

 The property next door to Ashley Village (accommodation & Self-help facility owned by the QuadPara Association of KZN in South Africa) has now been purchased. The transfer of the property went through on the 18th November 2013. Plans are now being drawn and estimates have been established.

The buildings need to be upgraded and fitted to become a fully functional and accessible step-down facility that will:-

 

HOLISTICALLY IMPROVE THE LIVES OF REPEAT PRESSURE SORE PATIENTS THROUGH:- 

  • Step-Down Care

o   To develop a SIX BED step-down care facility at Ashley Village in Pinetown.

o   To engage the services of a wound care group for daily visits.

o   To employ a Registered Nurse to manage the medical side of the unit.

o   To employ trained caregivers for the 24/7 work.

o   To engage a Physiotherapist group to ensure regular, safe stretching.

o   To engage the services of a professional cleaning service.

o   To employ kitchen staff to prepare well balanced meals.

o   To contract a medical waste disposal company.

o   To ensure all furnishings and equipment are relevant and well maintained.

o   To contract a security company for 24/7 on-site security.

 

  • Capacity Building & Life Skills Development Program

o   To prepare patients one-on-one to build confidence and motivation while confined to bed.

o   To identify possible entrepreneurial skills, and develop them.

o   To identify arts and craft potential, and develop them.

o   To encourage a fitness mindset through sport and gym activities.

o   To ensure good preventative skills are developed to manage pressure and general health issues.

o   Establishing mentorship & support group programs

  

The service will include the following:- 

  • Project Development
  • Project Management
  • Wound care management.
  • Regular physiotherapy
  • Balance diet and prepared meals.
  • Personal assessments and profile development for each patient admitted.
  • Implement, co-ordinate, and manage assessment, counselling, and Capacity Building courses.
  • Implement, co-ordinate, and manage Artistic training & workshops.
  • Implement Sports training, and gym programs.
  • Implement, co-ordinate, and manage Lecturers, training, assessments for entrepreneurial & workplace skills development.
  • Support Staff for the facility
  • Administration
  • Interpreters.
  • Mentorship programs.
  • Reporting to case managers.

 Requirements:- 

Building design is in progress, and a list of equipment required is established. Estimates for building alterations, and furnishings and equipment total US$200 000.

This includes all building & access modifications, leveling & paving, infection controls, aquatherapy pool, security, beds & pressure mattresses, hoists, and gym equipment.
