Kathleen Fortune hasn't added a story.
This is how it all started... yesterday morning I received a frantic phone call from my sister. She was walking to the bus stop and saw a cat, dead in the street, apparently hit by a car, and there were about 8 other cats surrounding it. My sister was worried about the othe cats having the same fate, so along with the help of another passerby, they placed the dead cat in a blanket and laundry basket, and moved it to the side of the road. I decided I need to go there and investigate further. When I arrived I saw cats by the laundry basket and cats by the spot in the road where the accident happened. I looked around to find where the cats were coming from, and I found a house that had about a dozen cats laying in the driveway and yard. Since I take care of ferals, I know that if one of my cats was killed, I would want to know about it, so I brought the laundry basket to the front door of the house. I knocked and rang the bell, but there was no answer. A few of the kittens came to greet me.. they were very friendly, but some looked very sick... missing eyes, bulging infected eyes, limping, hungry, etc. I started posting on rescuer sites, calling rescuers, calling agencies... I spoke to about 20 different organizations asking for help. Unfortunately people were wither unable to help, unwilling to help, or not answering their messages. On a second trip back to the house, I met the homeowner, an elderly woman who said she didn't want the cats there anymore and her daughter couldn't find anyone to take them. Luckily, some really amazing women saw my cry for help on the Guardians of Rescue page. Thank you to the amazing Jeannie Clarke Halkiadakis and her son, Nancy Zorali, and Claire Cogrove for helping me help these cats. The ASPCA stepped in and took some of the really sick kittens. These ladies grabbed 8 more last night and they will be trying to get the rest today. Some of the cats appear to be pregnant. The ladies will be taking them to the vet and they will be available adoption next week. They are not a rescue agency so they do not have access to funds. They are just animal loving rescuers who do this out of the kindness of their own hearts, but they need help - so let's help them! Donate here and I'll personally be bringing the cash and supplies to the cats. If you're interested in adopting one, please let us know!
